Editorial

It is our pleasure to present yet another issue of VISION: Journal of Indian Taxation that promotes the multidisciplinary scope of the journal by including papers that not only deal with the core areas of taxation but also impinge upon related areas that have a bearing on the Indian tax system.

This issue includes an interesting paper by Prof. K. V. Bhanu Murthy that considers the growth patterns of State Domestic Product for Special and non-Special States to examine if special status of Indian states is justified. Using semi-log growth equations and a Convergence Index, the paper demonstrates that the state GDP of non-Special States has grown at a slightly lower rate per annum than Special States. The author concludes that Special status is justified.

The paper by Mrs. Richa Chaturvedi and Dr. Ashok Karri explore the role of strategic orientation for Indian startups in dealing in a turbulent environment. Studying environmental factors affecting firms operating in a turbulent environment, the authors suggest that it is necessary that Indian entrepreneurs shun some of the traditional paradigms and adopt paradigms that are more in sync with strategies that promote innovations.

To check an individual’s knowledge of tax planning and management and to measure it with demographic factors, the paper by Dr. Yagna Vyas and Dr. Vijay R. Gondaliya use primary data of salaried individuals of the Bardoli region. The findings of the study show that higher-income individuals need professionals’ help to manage their tax, but qualified people are having sufficient knowledge for the same. The respondents seem aware of 80C and 80D deductions but they are not taking education loans or giving donations for deduction.

Another paper on an important interdisciplinary aspect of mediating role of financial inclusion has been contributed in this issue by Dr. Alka Singh and Ms. Nancy Gupta. Using structured equation modelling, the outcomes show that both common action and financial intermediation have important and direct effect on financial inclusion in Uttar Pradesh.

Two papers have been included as ‘Perspectives’ in this issue. The paper by Dr. Ashoka M. L. and Ms. Aswathy P. study the traditional public sector accounting and benefits and challenges involved in the adoption of the international standards. The paper is timely in vie of the fact that India is moving towards accrual system of public sector accounting in a phased manner. The other paper by Ms. Sonia Bhatt examines the policies launched by the government of India to increase the internet self-efficacy level of people in rural areas. The paper explores the Digital village scheme and Digital Village 2.0 campaign and its impact on villagers after its application in selected villages. This issue includes a ‘Commentary’ by Mr. Chandrashekhar C. on Income Computation and Disclosure Standards (ICDS). The paper focuses on the impact of ICDS on key areas of business transactions and it tries to give a clear picture about ICDS.

VISION continues in its endeavour to provide insightful and innovative perspectives on Indian tax system and related domains. We hope our readers find this issue interesting and we would look forward to receiving the feedback of our readers.
