Ongoing geopolitics plays a major role in shaping bilateral relations especially economic relations among countries. EU’s sanctions on Russia and constitution of subsidiary branches of BRICS (such as BRICS bank and AIIB) has generated greater momentum in the bilateral trade between India and Russia after the 2010s. This paper examines the impact of EU’s sanctions on Russia on bilateral trade using an ex-ante partial equilibrium model, called SMART. The simulation analysis shows greater trade creation and diversion for India’s export of food and manufactured items as compared to India’s import from Russia during the study period.
