Social enterprises are changing the face of businesses across the world. As per Deloitte Human Capital Trends 2018, entitled ‘The rise of social enterprise’, businesses are entering a new paradigm which considers a business, less as a company and more as an institution integrated into the social fabric of society. Sixty-five percent of the companies rated inclusive growth as one of their top three goals and citizenship and social impact were also rated as important. This study explains social entrepreneurship in emerging economies. It discusses the concept of social entrepreneurship, some ventures of global social entrepreneurship and its contribution to economic development in an emerging economy scenario. This study analyses the case of India and Bangladesh and discusses the challenges and role of government in promoting social entrepreneurship and gives recommendations for the success of social enterprises.
