Do Sustainability Practices Enhance Competitive Advantage in Tourism Business? A Study for Ethiopia

This study was intended to investigate the current sustainability practices of tourism businesses, particularly star classified hotels by predicting enhancing of competitive advantage, reduction of financial leakage and improving quality tourism experience. The type of the research was mixed type and cross-sectional survey design has also employed.  A self-administered survey from all-star classified hotels of Ethiopia was applied. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) using SPSS 23 and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) using AMOS 21 were used. SEM analysis was also done to test the effect of sustainability on competitive advantage.  Sustainability practice does not significantly influences the competitive advantage of these star classified hotels in Ethiopia. Furthermore, quality tourism experience was partially mediated the relationship of sustainability and competitive advantage of star classified hotels in Ethiopia. This study has been conducted on star classified hotels; as a result, it may have limited on generalizability to other types of tourism businesses.
