As the strategic decision making of SMEs is known to be concentrated in the hands of individuals or small-sized top management teams, an understanding on the specific impact of individual-level antecedents on the internationalization process, which is critical for SMEs given their small size, remains essential.   This paper, through a structured literature review, studies the impact of individual-level antecedents on the degree of SME internationalization. A total of 52 studies, spanning a 32-year period from 1989-2020, were identified for study purpose, identifying key research patterns and also delivering important implications.
