AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy

These policies have been formally adopted in view of the increasing use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies by content creators. Their primary purpose is to establish mandatory standards of transparency and accountability, while providing unambiguous guidance to authors, reviewers, editors, and contributors. Journal Press India shall continuously monitor advancements in this domain and reserves the right to amend, refine, or expand these policies as and when required to uphold the integrity of its publications.

 

For Authors

All authors are required to disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of their manuscripts. Such disclosures must specify the nature and extent of AI involvement. Failure to provide accurate disclosure may result in rejection of the submission, withdrawal of published work, or other actions deemed appropriate by Journal Press India.For Authors – Use of Generative AI in Scientific Writing

Writing Process

  • Used AI only for readability and language improvement, not for generating content or insights.
  • Exercised human oversight: reviewed and edited all AI-generated text.
  • Ensured the final responsibility for the manuscript content rests with human authors.
  • Added a disclosure statement in the manuscript if AI was used.
  • Did not list AI as an author or co-author.
  • Did not cite AI as an author.
  • Verified that:
    • The work is original.
    • All listed authors qualify for authorship.
    • No third-party rights are infringed.
    • Ethics in Publishing guidelines are followed.

Figures, Images, and Artwork

  • Did not use AI to create or alter images/figures.
  • Only adjusted brightness, contrast, or color balance without obscuring data.
  • (If applicable) AI use in imaging is part of research methods and described in:
    • Methods section (clear explanation of use).
    • Included tool/model name, version, extension numbers, and manufacturer.
    • Adhered to AI tool’s usage policies and provided correct attribution.
    • Kept pre-AI/raw images ready for possible editorial request.
  • Did not use AI in graphical abstracts or artwork.

 

For Reveiwers

Compliance Requirement for Reviewers: Reviewers shall not employ generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the evaluation, decision-making, or editorial processes, except where explicitly authorized by Journal Press India. Any permitted use must be transparently disclosed, with full accountability retained by the reviewer / editor. Unauthorized or undisclosed use may result in removal from the editorial/review board and other actions as deemed appropriate by Journal Press India.

For Reviewers – Use of Generative AI in Peer Review

Confidentiality and Restrictions

  • Manuscripts under review are confidential documents.
  • Reviewers must not upload manuscripts (or parts of them) into AI tools, as this may:
    • Violate author confidentiality.
    • Breach proprietary rights.
    • Breach data privacy rights (if personally identifiable information is present).
  • Peer review reports also contain confidential information and must not be uploaded to AI tools, even for language improvement.

Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Peer review is central to the integrity of the scientific ecosystem.
  • Reviewing implies responsibilities that only humans can fulfill.
  • Generative AI/AI-assisted tools must not be used for scientific assessment, because:
    • Peer review requires critical thinking and original judgment.
    • AI tools may generate incorrect, incomplete, or biased conclusions.
  • The reviewer is fully responsible and accountable for the content of their review report.

Author AI Policy (Awareness for Reviewers)

  • Authors may use AI tools only to improve readability/language (with disclosure).
  • Such disclosures are provided in manuscripts in a separate section before references

 

For Editors

Editorial Responsibilities

  • Editorial management of manuscripts is a human responsibility only.
  • Generative AI/AI-assisted tools must not be used for:
    • Evaluation.
    • Decision-making.
    • Drafting editorial opinions.
  • Risks of using AI in evaluation:
    • May generate incorrect, incomplete, or biased conclusions.
  • The editor is accountable for:
    • The entire editorial process.
    • The final decision on a manuscript.
    • All communications with authors.

Awareness of Author and Reviewer AI Use

  • If an editor suspects violations of AI policies (by authors or reviewers), they should inform the publisher.
  • Authors are permitted to use AI tools only for language/readability improvements (with disclosure).
  • Disclosure appears in a separate section before references in manuscripts.
