Workplace ostracism in the form of ‘cold violence’ is prevailing in our present organisations. The main objective of the present study is to understand and investigate the consequences of adverse events like workplace ostracism and its mechanism in context of healthcare. It is believed that when an individual is ignored and excluded at work by his colleagues or seniors, he suffers from cognitive as well as functional impairment. The study demonstrates that social pain is caused to the workers when there are adverse work events. This study establishes a relationship between workplace ostracism and an individual’s intention to quit the job via work engagement and work performance. The relationship described in the study is drawn upon Conservation of Resources Theory and Social Exchange Theory. The conceptual framework proposed provides useful insights to the readers that how workplace ostracism, while being so silent, leads to catastrophic reactions among people.
