Distress Facing Sugarcane Growers of Western Uttar Pradesh

This paper looks into the problems faced by sugarcane farmers of western U.P and strives to analyze the underlying causes. Studies of the market characteristics for inputs and outputs and technological factors have been undertaken and policy implications have been analyzed to identify the main causes of the malady. The role of administered prices has been incorporated in the study. Finally, recommendations have been made to improve the state of this sub- sector of agriculture.
