In view of the global importance of crop insurance, it is essential to develop a broader understanding of the topic. The present study focuses to map the existing body of knowledge to identify the directions for future crop insurance research. In this review, a bibliometric methodology on a corpus of 502 publications was systematically selected from the Scopus database. This study examines the productivity and impact of contributors to crop insurance research using performance analysis and science mapping, revealing the topical trajectories and foundational themes in the existing literature pertaining to crop insurance research. This study examines the research work of crop insurance to identify contributors, trends, themes, and future agendas with emphasis on behaviours, government role, systems improvement infiltration of change in decision-making processes.
