The equations governing the nationalist movement, national identity, and national needs are changing from time to time and many of the international forces at present are gaining increasing importance in shaping these equations. Besides, a number of changes are taking place within the nations also. Corporate culture is based on certain principles, values and ethical business conduct and corporate governance is about commitment to these values and principles. As a state of mind, ‘nationalism’ with its deeper psychological and sentimental attachment of the people to the ‘nation’, requires very strong ‘linking elements’, which need not necessarily be ‘economic’ in nature. In a globalized system, where economic considerations rule the most and shifting loyalties is a routine matter, corporate rules get top priority. With this background and inherent contradictions of the concepts of nationalism and corporate principles, an effort will be made to see the same in the fast-emerging globalized system.
