Progress in agriculture in the last few decades has made it possible for the country to meet its minimum needs for agricultural commodities. Though, in India, improvement in agriculture has been noticeable for the stakeholders still there are many issues and challenges before the policy makers for development of agri-commodities’ markets. Major findings in the literature indicate improvements in warehousing facilities, better informational networks, better price discovery, connectivity of markets and engagement of sustainable farming practices. This paper has also drawn from the Public Private Partnership (PPP) experiences to understand sustainable agri-commodities’ market models. This has helped in empowering farmers with information and knowledge, to take on market-impelled production, building post-harvest infrastructure, providing competitive channels for marketing to farmers and providing efficient and cost effective service. Thus, the need of the hour is to develop the agricultural supply chain, foster innovation, build and upgrade ‘mandi’ infrastructure, and provide business promotional services to farmers and their enterprises as has been envisioned in several legislations.
