Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe have low share in enterprises as compared to their working age population. The data of Fifth and Sixth Economic Census shows that disadvantaged caste are still under-represented in private enterprises in India. Further, the disadvantaged caste owns a large share of enterprises functioning without hiring labour. There has been a decline in employment provided by proprietary enterprises from 2005 to 2013. The decline has been due to decrease in employment provided by Other Backward Class and others. The disparity still exists in ownership of enterprises by caste, both in rural and urban sector.
