Purpose: Gen Z is the hottest consumer category at present, which holds a substantial consumer base. The marketers are focusing on this generation to succeed in the market. Therefore, the present study explores the effect of shopping motivations on status consumption among Gen Z consumers.
Design/Methodology/Approach: A sample of 297 consumers was collec-ted using a structured questionnaire. Data was analysed using CFA, PLS-SEM, and PLS-MGA. Findings: The results show that recognition enhancement, shopping for recreation, sexual attraction, and aesthetic expression significantly positively affect status consumption among Gen Z consumers. The findings also show that gender significantly moderates the relation between shopping for recreation and status consumption.
Research Limitations: Data were collected from a limited geographical area. Hence, these findings may not be generalised to other geographical areas.
Managerial Implications: The findings of the current study will assist the status retailers in developing strategies that would optimise their market penetration. Retailers of status items must utilise aggressive marketing strategies to get consumers to use their products. Products that enable Gen Z to exhibit their uniqueness and aesthetic preferences should be created by marketers.
Originality/Value: The present study explored the effect of shopping motivations on status consumption among Gen Z consumers.
