Psychologists always have concerned about mental health, fears and worries etc. and their negative consequences on human performance but it has also been established that individuals differ in personality traits and they react accordingly. Hope and optimism serve as a protective factor towards the negative consequences. The main aim of the study was to examine the role of hope and optimism as protective measure for occupational stress. For this, psychological capital questionnaire and occupational stress index were administered on a sample of 210 participants drawn from two universities of Punjab using by random sampling. Correlation analysis revealed that hope and optimism have significant negative relationship with occupational stress. Results also showed that participants with high level of hope are inclined to high level of optimism. Further, hope and optimism explained 17% variance in occupational stress (F = 21.68, p < 0.001).
