This study empirically estimates the impact of COVID-19, and lockdown on the most affected sectors of Himachal Pradesh. Based on secondary data, the study aims to calculate the sector wise loss to the Gross State Domestic Product and status of employment in the state. The paper estimates that 75 to 80 per cent of GSDP contributing sectors register negative growth rate in the year 2020-21 (A). The state being a major tourist destination registered a drastic fall in tourist inflow which translated into a major fall in the GSDP contribution from hotels and restaurants and transport. A large gap has been observed between the registrations of eligible workers on State employment exchanges and placements. Despite the pandemic, the state expenditure on health and education increased only meagrely.
