Trends and Research Frontiers in Healthcare Service Quality and Patient Satisfaction : A Bibliometric Perspective

Purpose: The study aims to map global research trends, intellectual structures, collaboration patterns, and emerging frontiers in healthcare service quality and patient satisfaction.

Design/Methodology/Approach: A bibliometric analysis was conducted using Web of Science Core Collection records. After de-duplication and screening, 1,306 English-language articles and reviews published between 1994 and 2025 were analyzed using RStudio and VOSviewer.

Findings: Research output increased steadily, with a marked rise after 2015 and a peak in 2025. The United States, China, and India emerged as leading contributors. Core themes included patient satisfaction, service quality, quality of care, patient experience, SERVQUAL, and telemedicine. Influential works by Mittal, Dagger, and Batbaatar shaped the conceptual foundations of the field.

Research Limitations: The study is limited to Web of Science and English-language records; citation indicators may be affected by time-window bias. Managerial Implications: The findings can guide healthcare managers in strengthening patient-centered service quality, digital care models, and experience-based quality improvement.

Originality/Value: The study provides an updated bibliometric perspective on a rapidly evolving patient-satisfaction research domain.
